MISSION

 

The mission of the Ascension Providence Hospital Colon & Rectal Surgery fellowship program is to produce outstanding physicians trained in Colon & Rectal Surgery who are fully prepared to pursue careers in either academic medicine or private practice.

INTRODUCTION

​

Fellows in our program benefit from innovative treatments and technology. They work alongside some of the most outstanding colon and rectal surgeons in the region. â€‹

 

Our fellowship program is a one-year program, with one fellow per year for the ACGME accredited program.

CLINICAL SITES

​

Henry Ford Providence Hospital is a community hospital with two campuses located in Southfield and NoviThe hospital provides tertiary care in Oakland County and to the population of the Detroit Metropolitan Area. The new Colon & Rectal Surgery program was accredited in 2024. 

​​

Our fellows also provide care for patients at Ascension Macomb Oakland and Ascension Rochester hospital. Fellows will have the opportunity to provide care and coverage at Corewell Health System in Grosse Pointe, MI. 

​

DIDACTICS

​

The didactic lectures include weekly lectures. Lecture from faculty (regional and national) and presentations driven by fellows including case presentations, M&M, journal clubs, research meetings, and much more. Our faculty is deeply involved in participating in these didactics.

HOW TO APPLY

All applications are processed through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

Your ERAS application must include:  

  • Completed application form

  • Personal statement addressing career objectives

  • 3 letters of recommendation

  • The American Board of Surgery In-Training Examination (ABSITE) Scores

All application materials, including all support letters, must be submitted by August 30.

ACADEMIC OPPORTUNITIES & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

​

Abundant opportunities exist for scholarly activity. Mentoring committees are established for fellows based on their interests and future goals to provide guidance on scholarly work, research or educational projects, and career planning. Fellows will be expected to complete at least one substantial scholarly project.
